Atlanta, GA (08/04/03)—ScholarWare announced today that it prevailed in a copyright infringement action against a mid-western university.  In an out of court settlement, ScholarWare, Inc. settled for an undisclosed amount of money to settle an alleged copyright infringement action that involved a school advisor and several students.  As conditions of the settlement, the University ceased any illegal distribution of ScholarWare software in the library and purchased appropriate licenses.  The students involved were also subject to the licensure agreement.  

"It is unfortunate that sometimes advisors and students knowingly illegally share and distribute our software just to avoid the costs of our fairly inexpensive products.  No matter what the reason, it is wrong and when we find blatant misconduct, we prosecute", said Dr. Steve Anderson, Chief Executive Officer, ScholarWare.  "In this day of easy software piracy, electronic sharing and stealing,  we must protect our intellectual property and copyrights. And we do."
